Educators and community leaders are meeting at UAlbany to promote AIDS awareness.
Wednesday was the first day of the Capitalize on Community conference at the University at Albany. The ultimate goal of the project is to improve HIV and AIDS prevention efforts in the Capital Region.
Members from all segments of the community, including students and professors, want to bring everyone together to work on this important issue.
Dept. of Sociology professor Dr. Hayward Derrick Horton said, "We're trying to realize that with collaboration, cooperation and coordination, we can be a powerful, effective and dynamic community."
The Capitalize on Community conference -- promoting AIDS awareness -- kicked off at UAlbany Wednesday morning.
UAlbany's conference continues Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Page Hall on Western Avenue. The keynote speaker will be Debra Fraser-Howze, president of the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS.
